Introduction to the Miscellaneous Stuff Blog

This is the eleventh website I've created. With this one, I've decided to ignore Google's and everyone else's rules about website design and just have fun. So, I'll be talking about whatever I want in whatever way I want.

I thought about whether to use my real name and decided that staying anonymous would make me more open. Perhaps some people will figure out who I am, but only a handfull.

I have had a technology-related job for many years. I quit my last job, because I was tired of the people I worked for ignoring what I said. When I say this or that approach is a waste of time, I have many years of experience to back up that statement. But, people who have never built a thing in their lives ignore that and insist that I waste months of my time on things that I've plainly said will never produce a thing. No matter how many times I've been right, they still ignore what I say. I finally decided I'd had enough. It was time to stop.

By the way, you can call me "the itinerant engineer", or Tie for short.

Now, I'm spending my time on things I want, rather than wasting it on wild-goose chases. And lately that has included creating websites--mostly websites that no one visits, because Google won't send any traffic to them. I've been creating websites because I enjoy it. And I really like writing PHP code. So, I do.

My girlfriend is many years younger than I am. She doesn't want me to use her name here, so I'll just refer to her as "Batgirl". I've been spending a lot of time flying back and forth between Batgirl's home and mine. Batgirl has a demanding employer, so she doesn't have a lot of free time. If you ever take a job in a big, expensive city, don't expect to have much of a life, because you won't get much of one between the job and commuting. That's why I left Los Angeles many years ago. I didn't enjoy being poor while living on what would be a decent salary just about anywhere else. When I left LA, I made myself a promise that I would never repeat that mistake. And for many years, I've kept that promise--including refusing to move to Batgirl's city to be closer to her.

I'm also a mormon. When I wrote that just now, I spelled it "moron". Freudian slip? I'm not the typical mormon. I'm sure I'll eventually explain what I mean by that, but it doesn't belong in this introduction, so I'll save it for another time.

My personality type is INTJ. I've been an avid science fiction fan since I was in the fifth grade. I enjoy working with computers, reading, and lately I've discovered podcasts. Podcasts mean that essentially all of my time can be productive. And, I also tinker with electronics from time to time. Yes, I'm a nerd.

I guess that's enough of an introduction to begin to get a sense of who I am and maybe what this website will be about--though the website may evolve over time. I have no goals for it other than to have some fun. Maybe I'll add "comments" sections or a forum, and maybe I won't. We'll just have to wait and see.
